Having danced herself since she was five years old, she grew up with a love for moving and performing for crowds. Kristen has always know she wanted to be a choreographer. As a young girl most of her summer afternoons were spent creating and teaching dances to her friends, and putting on ‘recitals' for their parents. Although Kristen danced at several different dance studios she eventually settled in at Annemarie's Dance Academy in Orangeville, where Kristen says she learned most of her skills. While at Annemarie's Kristen was part of the competitive team, completed dance exams, and also was an assistant teacher for 6 years. Shortly after her dance career, LP Stage Productions Inc., was formed in Shelburne in 2011, and that is exactly when Kristen knew dance, theatre and choreography was her life. Kristen has successfully choreographed 16 musical theatre productions, and is directing and choreographing the production, Dear Edwina Jr., coming up in November at Grace Tipling Hall. She has an abundance of experience in many different places; as an assistant/substitute teacher for Citrus Dance in Orangeville, choreographing productions with Brampton Music Theatre, and is also currently writing and co-directing a musical production with Theatre Orangeville and CLD for her second year in a row. Dance Fuel has a superior dance program where each child learns varied levels in technique for ballet, jazz, tap and acro as well as musical theatre depending on their skill levels. Children are encouraged through fun and light-hearted teaching at all times. Singing is introduced with concepts of music and theory in a variety of levels. This includes learning about the types of notes in music, the name of the notes and so on. Dance Fuel focuses on singing as a chorus, which is essential to a performer's life. Breathing, posture, rhythm and timing are also a main focus. Different types of music is introduced to students such as musical theatre, jazz, rap, pop etc. This helps broaden the scope of what your child knows as music. Dance Fuel keeps the music appropriate for their age at all times helping each child to fine their own voice. In acting the program will help the children become more confident. A confident child means an excellent audition, which can sometimes mean a starring role. Through improvisational games and some script work, the students find their confidence and are able to access their imagination once again. We also work on movement in class and the importance of “space” awareness. There is no wrong idea in drama! We keep it fun and exciting for each individual student! Studio owner Lori Gray is thrilled to welcome Kristen and is excited that they are able to share her experience and talent to the children of her studio.
