Halloween around Shelburne

Despite the rain that fell Saturday evening, Shelburne was a hub of activity well into the wee hours of the morning on Halloween.
Halloween is also known as All Hallows' Eve or All Saints' Eve and is celebrated in a number of countries on the 31st of October. The eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day begins a three day observance of All Hollow Tide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.
Halloween activities include trick or treating, attending Halloween costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films. In many parts of the world the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve include attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead remain popular, although elsewhere it is more commercial and secular celebration.
Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as vampires, monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches and devils, however over time the costume selection has extended to include popular characters from fiction, celebrities as well as ninjas and princesses.
Whether you started on Friday at Infinite Play's Halloween Party or attended the Little's Haunted House over at Fiddle Park. For the adults there was an awesome night of dancing to the amazing sounds of DJ Jerry Daniels at the Shelburne Legion.
When speaking to Carola Little she estimates that over the 3 different times you could visit their Haunted House a total of 750 to 800 children took their chances walking through. With the children's generosity they had two very full pick up trucks filled with items for the local food bank as well as a cash donation in the amount of $540.Volunteer wise there was a total of 37 people that made the event happened. The Little's would like to recognize and thank the following, John from No Fills for his generous donation of candy for the event. Ideal Supply for general supplies and donations towards the cause. Home Hardware, McCarthy Signs, Royal towing, Shelburne Free Press, Town of Shelburne, Foodland, Pete's Donuts, Minuteman Press, Home Hardware, Shelburne and District Fire Department, Besley Country Market, Infinite Play, Taray Farms and of course their own businesses Little Repairs, Accessories in Motion and Littles Pet Care. Carola says that if anyone is interest in volunteering for next years to email her at carolalittle@hotmail.ca. I can hardly wait to see what next Halloween brings to our town.
