Eat well

Jennifer Payne, (left) “super foodie promoter and head of the “Farm to School” and “Food Box” programs received a volunteer recognition award from Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA) on October 28th. The certificate was presented by Jeff Sedgwick and Shirley Boxem of HCIA who say Jennifer is receiving “incredible feedback from kids and parents” for her programs. Jennifer is a member of the Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance (HFFA) one of the key portfolios of HCIA. Boxem says, “HCIA started as a grassroots citizens group whose mission is to foster community leadership and action towards a long-term vision of well-being for the Headwaters Region. HCIA began in late 2004 through different sectors of the community coming together to address issues of shared concern; around 2008, work began on the Community Well-Being report which articulated the feedback from over 400 citizens via data analysis and municipal statistics.” Additional awards recognized Karen Morrison, a member of CHATT (Citizens of Headwaters for Active Transportation Team) and “a wonderful advocate for healthy lifestyles” and Theresa Sauren, who did “a lot of groundwork in the formation of HFFA,” with “thanks to Dufferin Board of Trade for her time and expertise, the meeting space they donate, and the funding donations for specific projects.”
