Wolves Midget Rep battle to 5–5 with PenetangThe Shelburne Wolves rep team showed how tenacious they can be during their Friday night (Nov. 6) home game against the Penetang Flames at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne. The Wolves got into trouble in the first period when the Flames opened the scoring then followed up with a second goal inside of five minutes while shutting down the Wolves to a zero period. Regrouping after the first period the Wolves returned and got on the scoreboard when Scott Decker notched the opening Shelburne goal with an assist from Keith Gordanier. The Wolves found out how taxing penalties can be when the took two minors that gave the Flames a two man advantage and had Shelburne defenders to close the holes when Penetang swarmed the net. That time in the box cost the Wolves another goal and Penetang went ahead 3–1. The Wolves managed to close the gap near the end of the second period when Nathan Newmaster took the feed across the front of the net from Stephen Falls and picked off the top shelf in the Flames net to make it a 3–2 game. Trailing by a single goal, the Wolves turned it up a notch in the final 20 minutes and got goal number three when Trent Downey scored on an assist from Newmaster. Downey did it again and got his second game on an unassisted effort. Stephen Falls got the final Shelburne goal with an assist from Darrin Janke to end the game 5–5 and give the Wolves a single point for the night. After the weekend the Wolves had a 4–2–1 record. The Wolves Midgets will be back in action tonight, Thursday, November 12, when they host the Elmvale Coyotes at the CDRC. The puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. By Brian Lockhart |
