Sharks win over Colborne in OTThe Shelburne Sharks gave their hometown fans what they were looking for on Monday (Nov. 16) when they left the ice with an exciting 6–5 overtime win over the visiting Colborne Chiefs. The Sharks opened the scoring on a goal from Brett Barry early in the first period but that's all either team could do in the first frame. Returning for the second period, the teams played an evenly matched game when Colborne tied it up at 3:02 into play. The Sharks were again in the lead when Samuel Garrido Ruiz took the feed from Barry to score, followed up by a second Shelburne goal from Carson Burns. The Chiefs made it a 3–3 game with two late period goals that brought the whole game down to a third period showdown but even that couldn't decide a winner when both teams scored two final period goals to make it a 5–5 game when the buzzer sounded and the teams had to re-group for overtime. Third period Shelburne goals came from Kelsey Katchuik and Justin Pereira. Pereira got the game winner to give the Sharks their fifth win of the season. With a 5–17 record the Sharks still have a long way to go in this season but every time they notch two points it's a step in the right direction. The Alliston Coyotes are leading the Central Division of the Greater Metro Hockey League followed by the Tottenham Steam who are undefeated and slowing closing in on the top spot in the Division. Over all, the Kingsville Kings are leading the League with 38 points and are undefeated after 19 games. The Sharks will be back on home ice this coming Monday, November 23, when they host the Bradford Rattlers at the CDRC. The puck drop for that game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. By Brian Lockhart |
