Headwaters Innovators keep newborns warm with donationOn Sunday, November 22nd, members of the inaugural Headwaters Innovators group gathered in the boardroom at Headwaters Health Care Centre to hash out their first fundraising decision. Headwaters Innovators invites members, who are between the ages of 20 and 45, to network with like-minded professionals at unique venues, offers behind the scenes hospital tours, and provides access to multi-hyphenate professionals, while engaging them in philanthropy for Headwaters Health Care Centre. “Headwaters Innovators represent the volunteers and activists of the future,” said Chris Stewart, Innovators Chair and founding member. “We are bringing together the best and the brightest in Dufferin-Caledon, and engaging the next generation of community leaders and philanthropists while at the same time having a lot of fun.” The donors, who commit a minimum of $5,000 over two years, pool their gifts to support a priority piece of equipment for the hospital, as decided by the group. “After a presentation last night by Headwaters' President & CEO Liz Ruegg, a hospital tour featuring equipment demonstrations by front line staff members, and a healthy discussion, the Innovators directed their 2015 donation to the purchase of an infant radiant warmer for the Women's and Children's program at the Hospital. A pre-heated radiant warmer is brought as a precaution for every birth at the hospital. Newborn infants in distress, either because they can't maintain a sufficient body temperature, have respiratory problems, or develop other complications directly after birth, are placed on the warmer where they can receive immediate medical intervention. Because almost 800 babies were born at Headwaters last year, a fourth radiant warmer is needed to meet the high volume of births. “We are all at the age where we are having babies, have young children, or are considering the future of our families, and this piece of equipment just resonated with all of us,” said Stewart. The Innovators are still accepting members; for more information, or to inquire about becoming an Innovator, please contact Catherine Matzig, Manager, Leadership Giving, at cmatzig@headwatershealth.ca |
