Don't be naughty this holiday season, drive sober Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) has kicked off its 2015 Project Red Ribbon to promote sober driving this holiday season and is asking people to get a red ribbon and then “tie it, wear it, show, share and live it” as their commitment to sober driving. With plenty of parties and celebrations taking place over the holiday season, and with many people travelling to see family and friends, the risk of impaired driving is high. The red ribbon is a symbol of the wearer's commitment to sober driving and a tribute to the thousands of Canadians who are killed and injured in impairment related crashes each year. MADD Canada is urging Canadians to make this holiday season free from impaired driving crashes. Plan ahead when you know you will be drinking. Take a cab or bus, arrange a designated driver or plan to stay over. Never drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver and if you see a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 to report it o the police. The call you make could save a life. The public can also help support MADD Canada by making a donation at any LCBO store throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for MADD Canada will be displaced at LCBO checkout counters until December 31. As part of LCBO's annual Giving Back In Our Community campaign, customer service representative will invite customers to add a $2, $5 or $10 donation to their purchase. These funds raised for MADD Canada support its School Assembly Program, a film and in class curriculum that educates students about the risks of impaired driving. This compelling film features a combination of fictional storyline and testimonials from real life victims of impaired driving. This program encourages students in grades seven to twelve to make responsible choices, and to not drink or take drugs and drive or ride along with someone who has. “Teens and young adults are over represented in impairment related crashes to an alarming degree. Our School Assembly Program is a crucial way to educate students about the risks of mixing alcohol and/or drugs with driving and motivate them to always drive sober”, said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. “Thanks to the powerful commitment of LCBO staff and the generosity of customers, this life-saving message reaches more and more Ontario students every year”. LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter says “this December, our hope is to surpass last year's record of $2.3 million raised for MADD Canada thanks to the public's generous support. These donations ensure that more then a half a million students at 1,500 Ontario schools see the School Assembly Program at no cost to the schools.
