Arbour Farms, Stanton intersection scrutinizedA gathering at Honeywood Arena on June 15 at 10 a.m. might be expected to be a tad fiery as it is a public meeting on the proposed Arbour Farms gravel pit, which has been opposed by residents concerned about truck traffic on Airport Road and about any possible effects on water, among other things. The public meeting was announced Wednesday morning by Mulmur Mayor Paul Mills at the county's Public Works Committee meeting, committee chairman Ken McGhee said. Arbour Farms access to Airport Road was on the committee's agenda. There is a preliminary design but discussions about it are continuing. In other issues affecting Airport Road, there will be a revised plan for improvements at 5 Sideroad. The improvements are scheduled for later this summer or fall but the timing is dependent upon the move ogt the Stanton Hotel. Mr. McGhee didn't have a timeline for the move but said CAO Sonya Pritchard expects to have a staff report at the meeting of county council on June 13. According to a motion passed by the council at its May meeting, the county will share in the costs of moving the building but it will be up to the community to pay for the restoration, expected to be phased over five years. The intersection of County Road 16 and the Mono-Amaranth Townline (Veterans Way) has been under discussion ever since a collision between a school bus entering the town line with a southbound vehicle. Mr. McGhee said the discussions about a possible traffic light is “an ongoing thing.” By Wes Keller |
