Shelburne Lions give back to mark 100th anniversary

Lions Club International is preparing to mark its centennial, having been founded 1917. It is the largest service organization in the world with clubs in 208 countries and geographical areas. To celebrate, clubs have been asked to perform a new service project for their communities - a Centennial Community Legacy Project. The Shelburne and District Lions Club has chosen to supply books to the primary grades at the local elementary schools.

Though the Rad and Rise programme, Lions, in partnership with Scholastic Canada, are able to purchase books for schools and libraries at a discount.

The Lions ordered books for students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 3 at half the cost. Therefore, they were able to purchase double the books that the schools could have purchased for the same amount of money.

Not only are the Lion Club servicing the schools by supplying some books but, they are also promoting the Lions Literacy program, one of the many Lions Clubs International program.
