Shelburne Fair seeks sponsors as Poster places First

The board of the Shelburne and District Fair is working to “enhance and expand” their existing sponsorship program” and “build confidence within the community,” says Jason Yarwood, Second Vice President of the Board.

To get the job done, Karren Wallace has been asked to join the Sponsorship Committee this year.

“She's an incredible communicator, and has been the voice in several local campaigns,” says Mr. Yarwood. “She has always loved and supported the fair in some capacity, so we've now made it official. The board was very excited to hear that she agreed to help out.”

The board is in sponsorship drive now as they prepare for the 2016 Fair Book. For as little as $50, you can get your name in the book, says Mr. Yarwood.

“We offer full page, quarter page and business card sized ads,” he says.

The deadline for Fair Book sponsorship submissions is March 21 and Mr. Yarwood encourages business owners, farmers, residents, artisans, community and service groups, Council members, and stakeholders to get involved this year and “help us drive toward our 150th anniversary in 2017.”

More good news was announced this week by the board, when Kimberly Evans' entry in the fair poster competition at the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Convention took first place for the second year in a row.

The annual convention is held each year in February at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

Evans' Shelburne Fair Poster was so striking that it was moved from the amateur category into the professional digital category and still took first place honours.

“It was quite an honour to receive the red ribbon two years in a row,” says Ms. Evans, a board director, adding, “it would be terrific if we could get the Graphic Art and Art students at Centre Dufferin District High School to participate.”

Mr. Yarwood added the win “continues to show the dedication, care and new spirit” of the Shelburne Fair board with “new ideas, modernization, and hard discussions regarding the fair.”

Posters must comply to official regulations and be dropped off by August 1, 2016 to the Shelburne Free Press office, Main Street, Shelburne.

To become a Member of the Agricultural Society contact Sue Peterson at busyfamilyoffour@yahoo.ca 1. Youth competitions (including the youth poster contests) do not require membership.

The 149th Shelburne and District Fall Fair is being held on September 16, 17 and 18, 2016 featuring the theme of “Country Roots and Rubber Boots.”

Interested vendors and sponsors should contact Karren Wallace at karrenwallace@sympatico.ca 2 . Sponsors can direct their sponsorship or donation to the Shelburne and District Fair in general or directly to any of the entry categories, events or entertainment.

“Past sponsorship has been greatly appreciated and has helped make this important community event a success,” says Wallace. “A sponsorship of $100 or more entitles you to advertise in our fair book and a donation of $1,000 or more entitled you to a full page ad and more.”

1,200 Fair books are distributed locally and sponsorship will continue to be welcomed past the deadline to be included in ads on the Fair website, and advertising and signage at the Fair in September, adds Evans.
