Indulging in the “Sweetest Day of the Year”

Monday, February 29, was the “sweetest day of the year”, according the Ontario's SPCA.

It was National Cupcake Day and their aim was to raise money in support of the Orangeville and District Humane Society. This year was the Society's fourth annual Cupcake Day and all proceeds will help give surrendered, neglected or abused animals a second chance in life and to be rehomed.

The Society held cupcake parties at their local thrift stores in Orangeville and Shelburne, with a team of volunteers baking the cakes for sale to raise funds. Donations of cupcakes were given from large grocery stores such as Zehrs and Sobeys.

The aim was to raise $11,000 for the animals and, so far, they have reached $7,000 from the cupcake parties and funds are still pouring in.

For more information on the cupcake parties, you can check out their website at www.nationalcupcakeday.ca or call Calla Spencer, The Orangeville centre manager at 519-942-3140, ext. 23, and she will be happy to give information on how to donate or help raise funds.
