Regrettably, we did not win the $10,000 first prize, which went to Pickering Central Library system. Second went to Kirkland Public Library in Kirkland, QC, and third place went to Carbonear Public Library in Newfoundland. However, we did receive an honourable mention and are quite proud of that, considering that this is a national competition and we did receive second prize a few years ago. We knew we were a strong contender because our circulation was up by 200 per cent last summer, we had great activities and participation and that, in itself, makes us very proud. Sign up again this summer for fun activities and a great literacy experience.   Children's Programs Tuesday is the final day for the Super Readers Program. The children have been working very hard at their weekly reading activities and crafts. We will have a little party to celebrate the achievements of all our Super Readers. Now, we are working on the TD Summer Reading Club for July and August. The theme this year is “Wild.” Briana Lovato is our Summer Student Assistant and we know she will bring some creative and fun ideas to the program. We will have the registration sheets ready soon, so keep checking the website or give us a call if you would like to register. Story time is ongoing on Friday mornings at 10.30, for preschoolers and will continue during June, July and August. The “Paws to Read Program” with Mac is continuing into June for a couple of weeks on Tuesday afternoons, so if you would like to read to Mac please give us a call. For more information on any of these programs, please call the Library at 519-925-2168   Teen Scene Our teens have been showcasing their creative writing skills over the last couple of Teen Scene meetings, and it has been a really amazing experience. Teens are given a writing prompt at the beginning of the meeting and then they spend 45 minutes composing a story based on the prompt. We spend the last 15 minutes sharing the final product. The group has such diverse interests, which means no two stories are ever alike and, let me tell you, the hilarity that ensues NEVER disappoints. New members are always welcome! We are also starting to plan for our Teen Summer Reading programs and we could use YOUR input! There will be a survey in the YA section of the Library for the next couple of weeks where you can rank our proposed activities, as well as let us know what else you want to do this summer. Teens can complete the survey anonymously, but there will be a draw at the Teen Summer Reading Club launch party for those who choose to put their names on the survey! I don't know about you, but I just can't wait to see all those smiling Teen faces back in the library!   New Books   Fiction: Panther's Prey by Lachlan Smith The Secrets of Flight by Maggie Leffler Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey The Measure of Darkness by Liam Durcan Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray Extreme Prey by John Sandford   Nonfiction: 100 million years of food by Stephen Le Changing Normal: How I Helped My Husband Beat Cancer by Marilu Henner The Bridge Ladies: A Memoir by Betsy Lerner TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking by Chris Anderson Raised Bed Revolution by Tara Nolan The Plant Lover's Guide to Clematis by Linda Beutler The Plant Lover's Guide to Primulas by Jodie Mitchell Easy-to-grow Vegetables by the Editors of Fine Gardening The Essential Retirement Guide by Frederick Vettese --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-05-13 13:14:00 Post date GMT: 2016-05-13 17:14:00 Post modified date: 2016-05-13 13:14:00 Post modified date GMT: 2016-05-13 17:14:00 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
