No Frills steps up to help Fort McMurray

John van Teunenbroek, owner of John's No Frills in Shelburne (back) and staff, announced that well over $7,000 has been raised in customer donations for Fort McMurray in just the last 17 days. Mr. van Teunenbroek says 100% of the donations will go directly to the Red Cross to assist victims of the devastating fire, which has now effected over 500,000 hectares of land in Alberta, displacing 94,000 people from their homes. The money will be matched by the government. “Loblaws Canada has donated food, water and money totally $300,000 in value to aid the fire victims,” says the store owner. Money can still be donated at the check-out counters of No Frills on Hwy 89 in Shelburne. PHOTO BY MARNI WALSH
