Senior Cubs give up 9-4 loss to Lisle

By Brian Lockhart

The Mansfield Senior Cubs came up short in their Wednesday, June 29, game against the Lisle Astros when the visitors got the bats moving in the fifth and sixth inning to take the lead.

With not scoring from either team in the first two innings, the Cubs got things moving in the third with Adam Coe leading off with a single.

Bill Hawkins followed up with another single that drove in the first run of the game and loaded the based for the Cubs.

The second run came when Jess Ragazzon hit to left field to bring in a second Mansfield run.

Two more runner crossed the plate when Tyler Greer dropped one to shallow left field and bought enough time for both runner to cross the plate and give Mansfield a 4-0 lead.

The Astros got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning on a single run homer.

A ground rule double in the fifth brought in two more Astros runs to make it a 4-3 game, followed by a nice bunt that brought in third Lisle run for the inning.

The Astros took a lead on a missed throw to first base that allowed a runner to make it across home plate from third base.

The Astros delivered the coup de grace in the sixth inning when a three-run home run topped their score at nine for the game.

Mansfield had some success in their final inning getting two men on base, but that's all they could do for the night and they had to settle for a 9-4 loss.

The Ivy Leafs are currently leading the Senior division of the NDBL followed by the New Lowell Knights and the Midland Indians.

The Cubs will be back at their home diamond in Mansfield on Wednesday, July 6, to host the Nobleton Cornhuskers.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6.30 p.m.
