Silver Willow Creek Classic Country Crusin’ is a show like no otherBy Michelle Janzen Once again, Silver Willow Creek Classic is holding its one of a kind Country Cruisin' July 9 and 10 at Silver Willow Farm Rescue Center in Mansfield. Silver Willow Farm Rescue Center is a unique farm animal rescue center located on a sprawling 100-acre farm in the hills of Mulmur near the village of Mansfield. This event helps raise funds for the animal rescue center. Each year, this rescue facility is responsible for saving and rehabilitating hundreds of abused or abandoned farm animals in a full service facility that is involved with every aspect from the actual rescuing of the animals to rehab, recovery and eventual adoption for some. There are two large barns on the property which house everything from birds to horses, and even some potbellied pigs. Many of these animals will be on site in their barns during this event so you can see where your money is going. “The fundraising event to help the farm animals has been developed over the years to encompass all age generations” says Farm Manager Laura McArthur. Now, if you have not yet been to this unique automotive event, you have quite the treat in store. From the moment you drive through the gates you will find groomed green grass, hills overlooking a sparkling pond, wooden paddocks and barns, and country music playing in the background, making the perfect backdrop to this “show like no other.” Classic cars, hot trucks, tractors and bikes all seemed like a natural fit at her show. Laura herself drives and shows trucks, so of course the trucks always get big billing at the show. With over 100 Trophy classes offered each year at the Silver Willow Classic Country Cruisin, at least 50 of them are for truck classes. “Personally I prefer a little more excitement,” says McArthur. And that's why she added the Diesel Doctors Dyno machine, which measures the horsepower and torque of your vehicle, ATV races and pulls on Saturday and Sunday. There is the Open Mud Race competition, with classes being determined by tire size, which will run one on Saturday and one on Sunday. And who could forget the ever popular Dirty Girls Dash for Cash with the race for the “naked chicken.” The race will be split into two age divisions, one being called "SWEET YOUNG THINGS" and the other being called "OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER.” The Silver Willow Classic is all about having a great time while still enjoying some serious show competition. Judging for the Show ‘n Shine classes starts at 12 noon on Saturday, July 9. With a full field of trophy classes. Along with the typical Show ‘n Shine Classes this show offers something for everyone including Best Work Truck Classes, Best Truck owned by a “beard”, Best ATV Modified, most original classic car, and the list goes on. A full list can be seen at www.SilverWillowClassic.com. Awards for the Show ‘n Shine will be given out Saturday in the early evening before the Open Mic night, which is new to campers only this year. “We will be having performances by Dozer, the Trick Pig, who performs with his friends: two chihuahuas, a giant poodle and a collie. Also, we will be having Bam Bam of Backroad Bounties as a Celebrity Judge,” says McArthur. “Camping is offered again this year, as it's just too much fun to go home. However, if you're only coming for the day, don't forget to pack lots of sunscreen, lawn chairs and remember there are no ATMs or a store on the grounds. However, there will be food vendors as well as some artisans selling their wares” says McArthur. The Animal Rescue website can be viewed at www.SilverWillowFarmRescue.com Please see the website for more info and make sure your camp sites are booked early. |
