Shelburne Library NewsBy Rose Dotten We are tremendously excited about our summer programs. We had a great turnout for our TD Summer Reading Club launch last Saturday as children received their summer reading activity packages. There is still time to sign up for a summer packed with fun and activities. Our Teen Summer Reading Challenge members numbered 17 on the first night and there again, we have a summer filled with movies, activities and reading challenges. Check out both calendars of activities on our website: www.shelburnelibrary.ca/summerreading 1 Mystery and Mayhem: Authors in the Hills of Mulmur We have another great line-up of authors and some other entertainment as well. Yes, the entertainment will remain a mystery until Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. Meet authors Ian Hamilton, Steve Burrows and Inger Ash Wolfe (Michael Redhill) as they discuss their works in a panel format with moderator, Ken Weber, author himself of the 5 Minute Mysteries. This will be a great time with food and refreshments as an added treat. Tickets are ready now and this year we have a limited number as it is being held at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives and therefore none will be available at the door. Tickets are available for $35 at BookLore, The Township of Mulmur, and Shelburne Public Library. Children's Programs Wonderful noise and activity dominated the KTH room as 30 children participated in our Craft session on Tuesday morning at 10:30. It was fun and exciting for all the young participants and their moms, dads, caregivers, and grandparents. Yesterday, we had eight children participate in our Summer Book Club. A terrific discussion ensued as they are so eager to talk about the books and authors that they are enjoying. We also had popcorn for our movie-watching group and they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon event. Remember, there are activities everyday… so, look at the calendars on our website for the age appropriate activities (children or teens) and join us. Teen Summer Reading Challenge: #SPLsummerreadingchallenge We were surprised and delighted to have 17 teens attend our Teen Summer Reading Challenge launch party last Thursday evening! We played some ice breaker games, including my favourite, the Skittle Game, talked about our reading goals for the summer, and even made Harry Potter-style wands (FYI: Harry Potter's birthday is at the end of the month!). And what's The Skittle Game, you ask? Come out to the TSRC events to find out—this won't be the last time it is played! On tap this week: Life-sized Hunger Games Monopoly (Wednesday, July 13 @ 11:30 am) and a travel destination board craft (Thursday, July 14 @ 7pm). Registration is not required for either event, but letting us know you're coming helps us have an adequate amount of materials ready! Thursday Market Time Last Thursday was a busy time at the market; lots of folks browsing the many booths and lots dropping by the library table. It was great to chat with folks and make them aware of our terrific summer programs and pick up a book for your summer reading. Take a book and make a donation! It is as simple as that.
