The Cubs gave up the series in four games with a final 7-2 loss to the New Lowell Knights on Thursday, August 11, in New Lowell. After a stellar season that saw the Cubs end in first place as a first year team, the Mansfield squad won their first round series in three games over the Midland Twins. The Cubs had a 10-7-1 record to end regular season play. The championship series got underway against New Lowell on Tuesday, August 2, and ended with a 4-2 Knights win. The Cubs pulled off a win in the second game of the series taking an 8-2 win to make it an even series. Going ahead by one game on August 10, the New Lowell team managed 11 runs to Mansfield's five. The final game took place in New Lowell on Thursday night with the Knights taking the game 7-2 win, winning the 2016 championship. One inning made all the difference in the final game when New Lowell scored six runs in the fourth. Mansfield garnered their two runs, scoring on in the fifth frame and one in the seventh. The Cubs were limited to five hits with Trevor Foster, Bailey Durocher and Matt Cameron hitting singles. Jordan Metz singled twice. On the mound for the Knights was Kashtin Winchester and, over his seven innings, gave up two runs on five hits, walked three batsman and struck out two. For the Cubs, Josh Johnston pitched three and two-thirds, allowing seven runs on four hits, walking three, hitting two batters, and striking out two. Metz came in for relief in the fourth inning and pitched one and two-thirds, walking two and fanning three batters. Jacob Hall finished the game for two-thirds of an inning with no hits or walks, striking out one.
