Ford “drive” for Soccer raises hundreds

By Marni Walsh

The Shelburne Soccer Club got a boost from Trillium Ford Lincoln in Shelburne last weekend when the dealership hosted a Drive 4 UR Community event as a fund raising initiative for the club.

On Saturday, August 20, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Trillium Ford volunteers set up a test drive station with their shiny new, baby blue Summer Cruiser at Greenwood Park.

The event took place during the Shelburne Soccer Club's House League Tournament and Gala Day celebrations, held at the park.

In its sixth year, Ford representatives say “the Drive 4 UR Community program has become popular with not-for-profit groups, including sports associations and service clubs, due to the fun nature of the event.”

Members of the community had the opportunity to test drive one of eight different, brand new Ford vehicles.

Marketing Coordinator for Trillium Ford Lincoln Shelburne and Alliston, Wendy Gabrek promised patrons would get a chance to test drive “everything, from a Focus to an F250 diesel truck – for free.”

For every test drive taken, Ford Canada pledged to donate $20 per household (to a maximum of $6,000) to Shelburne Soccer, said Ms. Gabrek.

“On Saturday, 37 people attended the Drive 4 UR event, raising $740 for Shelburne Soccer,” she said.

These much needed funds will be used by the Shelburne Soccer Club to offset registration fees, equipment costs, field costs and uniforms to benefit “both community sports and local youth.”

“We are very happy to take part in community initiatives that make it easier for local children to register for sports,” said added. “The Drive 4 UR events are a nice way for us to give back to the community that supports us, and the no-pressure sales atmosphere allows us to meet with the community and talk about our amazing vehicle line-up outside of dealership hours.

“Trillium Ford Shelburne representatives volunteer their time to host the Drive events, and the dealership pays to licence, insure and fuel the vehicles being used. Shelburne Soccer will receive a cheque for their event proceeds within the coming weeks.

“Ford of Canada and Ford dealerships across the country have been supporting local communities with the Drive 4 UR program since 2010. Since the program's inception, over $6.5 million has been raised for worthy causes and school partners across Canada.”
