Popular Farmers’ Market draws to a seasonal close Thursday

Photo & Story by Marni Walsh

Cheryl Dawson of Black Willow Farm braved the damp and chilly weather on September 30 so as not to disappoint her weekly customers at the Shelburne Farmers' Market.

Farmer Market Manager Joey Lemieux says Cheryl has been one of the Market's most faithful vendors over the last two years.

Cheryl and her husband Anthony produce maple syrup, seasonal vegetables, preserves, pickles, chili sauce, maple balsamic dressing and more at their farm near Erin.

Cheryl also makes gluten free turkey sausage to sell at markets and can be reached at blackwillow@live.ca or 519-855-6279.

This is the last week for the popular seasonal market organized by the Shelburne Business Improvement Association (BIA) and now led by new Chair Jennifer Crewson, who has been working hard over the final weeks to promote this important, seasonal event.

The market will operate for the last day this season, Thursday, October 6 from 3 – 7 p.m. at First and Owen Sound Streets in Shelburne.

To celebrate the close of another great market season, professional musician Bruce Ley will perform live music and all vendors will have Thanksgiving themed products on display.

Besley Farms of Shelburne has donated pumpkins for decorating fun for the kids and the whole family. So, come on out and thank the vendors and volunteers for their dedication to bringing fresh, wholesome, local food to the residents of Shelburne and area.
