The Silverstick Tournament, which was founded in 1958 to promote citizenship and goodwill between Canada and America, is a popular tournament and is growing more successful every year. Having won the tournament last year in Wasaga Beach, the  Midget rep team then went on to Forest in January 2015 for the finals, to scoop the big one: the National Silverstick Championship, making history for Shelburne. This year's team fought long and hard winning all four of their games, but couldn't quite get one over on the winning team, Minto, who will go on to Forest in January 2017,  representing their town in the finals. Stamina, perseverance and determination got the team through to the finals over the four days of games, first taking out Dundalk winning 8 – 3, then on to beat Seaforth with a 5 – 2 win. Zurich was a tougher team and had the boys working hard to keep control of the puck, but Shelburne took the win over Zurich with a 4 – 2 win. The semi-final between South Bruce proved tough with South Bruce scoring the first goal in period one, but Shelburne pushed hard and finally beat South Bruce 5-2. The final championship game on Sunday, November 19 in Wingham, had both teams fighting for survival, both wanting to win. Minto played a tight knit team and their passing techniques kept Shelburne at bay. Speed and skill on both teams put tension on all the anxious parents and coaches watching. Despite their hard efforts, Shelburne bowed down to a loss of 4 – 1. The Midget Rep team would like to thank all their sponsors, coaches, and parents for their support without which the season would not be possible. Wwould all like to wish Minto every success in the National Championship in January 2017 in Forest. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-11-25 23:54:46 Post date GMT: 2016-11-26 04:54:46 Post modified date: 2016-11-25 23:54:46 Post modified date GMT: 2016-11-26 04:54:46 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
