Royals deliver win in road gameBy Brian Lockhart The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals boys hockey team won their third game of the season after leaving the ice in Orangeville with a 6-1 win over the Westside Secondary School Thunder on Thursday, December 8. At the end of the first period, the Royals were leading 2-0 on goals from Charlie Ardis and Jesse Sterling. The Thunder got on the scoreboard in the second period with a nice play and a pass across the net to score. Royals' Sterling gave the Shelburne squad a 3-1 lead a couple of minutes later when he scored on a power play. Feeling the pressure, Westside came out flying for the first half of the third period taking the play into the Royals end, but the CDDHS squad responded and turned the game around with strong offensive play in the second half of the frame. Royals forward Matt Haire scored on a nice wrap around on the Westside goal. The squad finished off the game with two more goals from Scott Decker and Haire for his second of the game during a scramble in front of the Westside net. "For the most part we were doing pretty good," said Royals goalie Curtis Latter after the game. "We got a lot of shots and not to many penalties. We moved the puck around a lot. The team is working together a lot better now." In was the first loss of the Westside team this season. The Royals now have a 3-2-1 record after six games. The squad had a road game in Guelph today against J.F. Ross with results not available at press time. The Royals will return to home ice at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex on Tuesday, January 10, when they host the Orangeville District Secondary School Bears. Game time is 2 p.m. |
