Hacking for Headwaters Health Care Foundation

For those of us who are unfamiliar with equestrian terminology, “hacking” is a term used when describing riding and exercising a horse on a trail. Local resident, Margaret Spencer, and other volunteers from the Eglinton Caledon Hunt Club have created the perfect way to hack and raise money for the Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

On July 20th, for $60, participants can ride the 15K trail designated by Spencer that spans her property and the properties of neighbors gracious enough to volunteer their land for the charitable event. All participants must wear a helmet, and sign a waiver. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have a special fee of only $30. All types of riding styles are welcome and those who would like to participate without hacking, can simply walk for a fee of $30. Participants who sign up early can take advantage of a ten dollar discount making the entrance fee $50.

Following the ride, Spencer promises a wonderful barbeque, water for the horses, noting there will be plenty of parking places for trailers but asks that participants arrive early reminding the event begins at 9 a.m.

“The Eglinton Caledon Hounds Club first approached me with the idea and I thought it was great,” said Spencer.  “This is a fun day with no pressure and no one has to keep a certain pace. There will be great food and even a little poker.”Along the trail, riders can find playing cards and the one who has the best poker hand in the end wins. Wins what? Sign up and find out!

Contact Debbie Gee for your entry form at 519-925-6569 or email at deborahgee@sympatico.ca for more information.

The ride begins on Spencer's property, High Hill Farm 526387 in Mulmur Township located on the corner of Centre and 5 Side Road. The easy ride promises to be relaxing and scenic as hackers may appreciate vistas near the Bruce Trail. For those who simply wish to attend the BBQ and enjoy the festivities surrounding and supporting the charitable event, can do so for a $30 fee. Please note all money raised goes to support the Headwaters HealthCare Foundation.
