Two impaired drivers taken off the roads by Shelburne Police


On July 13, 2018 the Shelburne Police Service was conducting a RIDE spot check when the officers noticed a motorist exhibiting odd driving behaviour. The officers initiated a traffic stop and were met by a female driver whom the officers came to suspect had consumed alcohol.  The female driver participated in a roadside test for alcohol which she failed and was then taken to the Shelburne police station for further testing.  The female driver failed the subsequent tests and as a result, 58 year old Michelle Mahaffy of Orangeville was charged with: Driving while ability impaired; Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and failing to surrender permit for motor vehicle.

A court date has been set for the end of July in Orangeville where Michelle Mahaffy will answer to the allegations against her.

On July 16, 2018 while conducting radar enforcement a Shelburne Police officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.  Radar readings confirmed the officer's observations.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and was met by a male driver.  After a discussion with the driver the officer became suspicious that the male had consumed alcohol.  The male driver participated in a roadside test for alcohol which he failed.  The male driver was then taken to the Shelburne police station where he failed subsequent tests.  As a result, 29 year old Erfan Rouhi of Richmond Hill was charged with: Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood; Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle and speeding.

A court date has been set for the end of July in Orangeville where Erfan Rouhi will answer to the allegations against him.

Impaired driving is concern on roads not only in Shelburne, but across the province.  The Shelburne Police Service urges everyone to DRIVE SOBER.  If you drink, please do not drive.  Please make arrangements to use a taxi or a designated driver, walk or stay over.

Arrests made in Shelburne break 

and enter

On July 16, 2018 the Shelburne Police Service received a report of a break and enter at a residence in the Town of Shelburne.  The victims reported that their home was entered and a small amount of items were taken. As a result of the investigation, 18 year old Tristan Perreault of Shelburne was charged with breaking, entering and commiting theft.

A court date has been set for mid-august for Tristan Perreault to answer to the allegations against him.

The Shelburne Police service would like to take this time to assure the citizens of Shelburne that this was an isolated incident.  However, the Shelburne Police Service reminds everyone to lock their homes, sheds and vehicles regardless of the time of day.

Operation Safe Trucking

As the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) gears up for its Operation Safe Trucking campaign, it is dismayed at fatal transport truck collisions being up in all but two of the OPP's six regions, with its North East Region marking the highest increase this year at 800 per cent.

The OPP has responded to 33 transport truck-related collisions so far this year, marking a 38 per cent increase when compared to this time last year. Forty-one people have died in the crashes.
