LP Stage Productions’ ‘Frozen’ warms hearts at Grace Tipling HallWritten By MARNI WALSH LP Stage Productions has done it again. Another successful junior production of a popular Broadway musical, directed by Alison Port, has hit the stage in Grace Tipling Hall and is already amazing packed audiences with the undeniable talent of scores of local youth. This time, it is the popular new Disney classic Frozen, which opened to great enthusiasm and a standing ovation Nov. 22. Strong musical direction by Noni Thomas resulted in some beautiful and impressive harmonies opening night. The lead performers were all good singers capable of delivering both drama and comedy. It was obvious all the children held a strong affection for the story and characters, as well as for each other. As promised by LP director Alison Port, Savannah Da Silva, in the lead role of ‘Anna', was a standout with her contagious charm, strong vocals, and excellent character development. The entire cast and ensemble was exceptional, with some lovely moments from the littlest members such as Ashley Culham as young ‘Anna', as well as the older leads like Payton Menard as ‘Elsa', singing the very challenging ‘Let It Go'. The simplicity of Dale Lundy's set design worked perfectly for the large cast show, giving the 40 young performers lots of room to carry out Kristen Gamache's always excellent choreography. The costumes and puppetry were top notch, and the overall effect was visually engaging for audience members of all ages. The non-profit company also pulled off the essential special effects of snow and ice, which are central to the plot of Frozen, with a creative and effective lighting design by Justin Da Silva. Lights and sound were run seamlessly by first-time sound and lighting youth, Evan Harley. The heart warming performance based on a Frozen tale is perfect for everyone this holiday season. The show runs this weekend only and then it melts away. Final shows this Friday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at Grace Tipling Hall, 203 Main St in Shelburne. Call 519-925-2600 for tickets, on-line at Eventbrite, or at the door in cash. Tickets range from $12 to $18. |
