Shelburne Library news

One more month of summer holidays and one more month of our TD Summer Reading Program left this year. The children are reporting in on their reading activities at a wonderful rate and it is keeping us very busy which is exciting for us. It will be quite interesting to tabulate the statistics at the end of the summer and see if we have exceeded our last year's total of 4000+ books read.

TD Summer Reading: Our programs continue Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 with stories, songs, crafts, and movies. Check us out on Facebook to see the August schedule of activities and events.

Teens@Random: The Pizza & Pages Book Club group have selected The Giver by Lois Lowry as their selection for this month with Beastly by Alex Flinn to follow. This Thursday will be our Yoga nights so do come out and try something new if you have never participated in Yoga before or practice your skills if you have. Next Thursday will be Origami Night so if you have some experience already please come out and help some of the others. We will also be demonstrating some easy to do folds and objects. We look forward to a fun evening experimenting with nice paper and creative items. We have lots of books with ideas and lots of nice, colourful paper and great company.

Focus on Seniors – Home Outreach Program: Our Home Outreach program is almost ready to launch. We have prepared an introductory information package and publicity posters to distribute. At this point we have more than 30 names on our referral list and we will be contacting them within the next two weeks to see if they are interested in having books and magazines delivered to their homes. This is very exciting for us and we look forward to being of further service to our seniors in the community.

ILLO/PILLO

A great service that we offer is our interlibrary loan service. This is a way to extend our in-house collection and provide additional access to materials for our patrons. Again, there is no cost and we are pleased to be able to get the materials you want that we may not have on hand. Along with placing a request at the library for this material, we now also want to encourage you to use PILLO – Patron Initiated Library loans. For any books that we do not have, with this service, you obtain a number from us you can order books in from any library in Ontario. Come in for a demo and you will see how easy it is.

You can download the Instruction Leaflet from our website.
