Muskies lose at home – win one on the roadWritten By Brian Lockhart The Shelburne Senior Muskies split the weekend with a loss at home and a win on the road. The Muskies hosted the Shallow Lake Crushers on Saturday (Nov. 20) night at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in front of a good crowd of fans. Hoping to get revenge for the previous week, the Muskies want the win to equal out the loss they took to the Crushers the previous week. In that game, the Shelburne squad outplayed Shallow Lake but just couldn't bury any pucks in the net. They lost the game when the Crushers scored with less than a minute remaining. Saturday's game didn't provide the payback the Muskies were hoping for. Much of the first period was spent in the Shallow Lake zone but the Muskies couldn't put one past the goalie. At the end of the period Shallow Lake was leading 2-0. At the end of the second frame, they had extended the lead to 4-0. A final goal in the third period gave the Crushers a 5-0 win. The Muskies out-shot the Crushers 31-24 for the night, but 31 saves for the Crushers goalie meant all the difference. The squad was back on the ice the next day when they travelled to Tavistock to take on Royals in a Sunday afternoon game. At the end of the first period the Muskies were leading 3-0 on goals including two from Josh Sguigna. The big turnaround in the game came in the second period when Tavistock scored five powerplay goals to tie the game at five. At the end of the third the game was tied at six, and they went to a shoot-out to decide the winner. Sguigna scored on his shot. Muskies goalie, Malcolm Young managed to shut the door on all four Tavistock shooters to give the Shelburne squad the 7-6 win. The Muskies will be on the road on Friday night when the travel to Saugeen Shores to take on the Winterhawks. They will be back on home ice at the CDRC on Saturday, Nov. 27, to host the Seaforth Centenaires. Game time is 8:00 p.m. |
