The school held events during the week leading up to the run to raise money for cancer research. It was a festive atmosphere as students made their way to the running track in several different shifts through the school day. After a rally at the starting point, the kids made their way on to the track. Some walked, while others decided to make it a sprint and ran the entire course. “We're raising money for cancer research, it all goes toward that,” explained Tyler Higginson, who goes to CDDHS and organized the run, along with other students and staff.  “We sold cookies that the foods class here at the school made, we sold freezies that were donated by Foodland here in Shelburne. Seventy meals were donated by Jamaica House Jerk, that we sold here in the school foyer. And Giant Tiger donated hotdogs, buns, and ketchup.” On run day, the students could buy a hotdog for lunch before heading out to the track. “We set up a route, with the boundaries being set up like stops that Terry Fox made on his run,” Tyler explained. “There's Toronto, Dartmouth, North Bay, and Sudbury, and we have six of those just to make the outline of the track and keep people moving. The route is just over one kilometre long. There's a good amount of kids running. We encourage them to run but they don't have to. You can donate any amount of money, and you can win prizes.” The school has raised over $62,000 since they started doing the run in 1986. At the rally point, there were games, and even a raffle that gave the winner the chance to deliver a pie to the face of a teacher. The teachers were good sports and volunteered to take a pie in the face for the cause. The Terry Fox run takes place annually at schools as well as in towns and cities across the country. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2022-09-29 12:32:46 Post date GMT: 2022-09-29 16:32:46 Post modified date: 2022-10-13 12:02:52 Post modified date GMT: 2022-10-13 16:02:52 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
