Local high school Royals leading the District in basketballWritten By Brian Lockhart Both Centre Dufferin District High School boys' basketball teams are having a stellar year this season and leading the standings in District 4 competition. CDDHS has had a lot of success on the court over the past few years and the school remains strong in the sport. Junior boys The Royals junior boys basketball team is in first place in the District 4 standings with five high schools entered in competition this season. The Royals are undefeated after five games. Their most recent outing on the court resulted in a 61-43 win over Westside Secondary School on Dec. 19. On offence, the Royals are dominating the District in points, averaging 67 points per game. On defence, they have averaged only 36 points per game against. Westside Secondary School is in the number two spot in the District with a 3-2 record. They are followed by Erin District High |School, Emmanuel Christian High School, and Wellington Heights Secondary School. The Royals will be back on their home court in the CDDHS gym, on Monday, Jan. 16, when they will host Wellington Heights Secondary School. Game time is 3:00 p.m. Senior boys The Royals senior boys basketball team is in first place in the District standings with ten points and an undefeated 5-0 record. Their last game resulted in a 72-30 win over Westside Secondary School on Dec. 21. The squad has outstanding shooting capabilities averaging 68 points per game, so far for the season. At the same time, they have averaged 39 points per game against them this season. There are five teams entered in District 4 senior competition this year. Behind the Royals, in second place in the District 4 senior standings, Westside Secondary School has a 3-2 record. Norwell District Secondary School is in third place with a 2-3 record. They are followed by Erin District High School and Emmanuel Christian High School out of Fergus. The Royals senior boys basketball team will be back on their home court at CDDHS on Monday, Jan. 16. Game time is 2:30 p.m. |
