We noticed a huge return of books and patrons coming in today to obtain new books. That makes it a very lively day here. TD Summer Reading: The children are downstairs this Monday cooking up some healthy snacks with Heather McIntosh-Hayes. This week they are making granola bars, raspberry bars, blueberry smoothies, and a pumpkin dip. They are all delicious and healthy too. Heather will also be talking about school and lunch box snacks. Since our theme for the summer is the Journey across Canada, these snacks are all made with food grown locally. It was fun watching the dishwashing brigade... good training for later on. Our summer reading program events are winding down although there are still two full weeks left: Tuesday, August 13 the children will be making and decorating race cars and on Wednesday, August 14, they will be watching the movie, Cars with popcorn and juice. Next week on August 21st, they will be watching Monster's Inc.and then we are gearing up for the Grand Finale on August 24th... lots of fun, draws, certificates, great prizes and a surprise guest. Teens@Random: It has been a busy summer for teens at the Shelburne Library! We've had teens participating in weekly yoga sessions, as well as our weekly arts & culture program, Teens@Random. And let's not forget our popular monthly book club, Pizza & Pages!  Alas, the summer is coming to an end, and teens are busying themselves preparing for the Fall semester. This week will be our last week of teen programming, but we've saved the best for last... Tonight, during the final Teens@Random, teens will learn how to create their very own duct tape wallets! We'll also be continuing the Pizza & Pages book club (which meets the last Thursday of the month) throughout the school year, as it has been our most popular summer program for teens. Other news: Lauren, the student working on our Heritage project to celebrate the Library's 100th Anniversary was in on Friday and has completed the editing work on the booklet celebrating the history. We will have copies available in late September. Lauren has finished her first year of studies in the Master of Library and Information program at the University of Toronto and worked this summer at the OISE Library as an Intern. We are always delighted to have her come back. On a slightly different note, Emily, the summer student who was helping coordinate the Teens@Random program left this week and will be going back to Queen's University in September.
