Ontario public schools preparing students for successOntario students continue to improve their achievement levels, with 71 per cent of Grade 3 and 6 students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard in reading, writing and math. The latest test scores from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) show more students than ever are gaining the skills they need for success in school and beyond. The number of students reaching the provincial standard has increased one percentage point compared to 2011–12 levels and 17 percentage points in comparison to 2002-03 levels, meaning over 150,000 more elementary students are reaching the standard than would have in 2002–03. Grade 3 and 6 students whose first language is neither English nor French have particularly improved their test scores, narrowing the achievement gap with the general population by more than 80 per cent since 2002–03. Giving students the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond is part of the Ontario government's plan to prepare young learners for a productive and successful future and build a fair and prosperous society. |
