Shelburne Village Dental celebrated the opening of their new clinic, located at 702 Main St. E in Shelburne, on July 25.

“It's been wonderful and great dealing with our patients and getting to know them,” said Dr. Faisal Waseem, owner of the clinic. “Over the last three years, we recognized there was a need for specific dental services in the community and we picked up on those to incorporate into our practice.”

Dr. Faisal Waseem, a locally-based dentist, officially took over ownership of what was then known as Small Town Family Dental in January of 2021. The clinic, rebranded as Shelburne Village Dental, opened its doors to the community and patients in July that same year.

Dr. Waseem has spent the last decade working as a dentist in Orangeville, joining Heritage Dental Centre in 2010. Raised in Mississauga, he studied anthropology at the University of Toronto, taught English while living abroad in Japan, and later obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at his alma mater. Dr. Waseem also trained at a hospital in Upstate New York, after graduating, where he was exposed to dental surgery and emergencies.

In 2023, Shelburne Village Dental purchased the building that formerly housed the town's LCBO.

Over the last year, the space has been under construction to bring new features such as glass windows to allow natural lighting, modern interior designs, and a moss-preserved wall; all of which help remove the typical feel of traditional dental offices.

“When you take over a practice or clinic, it's not easy to renovate or change things around; you kind of inherit the build,” said Dr. Waseem about the clinic's move. “It's wonderful to have had the ability to design the clinic with a contractor and with dentistry in mind; specifically, the kind of dentistry I want to practice and the services we want to provide.”

One specific service that Shelburne Village Dental provides that was kept in mind during the design process is sleep dentistry. The design of the space includes a large spacious operating room as well as an exit set up at the back of the building to allow patients, who have been sedated, to leave in privacy.

Thus far, Dr. Waseem says the biggest selling feature for patients with the new location has been the increase in parking.

“It's an incredible parking space and everybody loves that. Parents with kids and elderly seniors don't have to park around the block like at the old clinic, and that really helps with accessibility,” said Dr. Waseem.

The new facility has also allowed the clinic to double the number of rooms they have from four to eight, which will open opportunities for more patients to join Shelburne Village Dental's care.

“We have definitely noticed a lot more interest and this will allow us to accommodate more people in the future,” said Dr. Waseem.
