Shelburne Library news

What an incredible day for the fair! We couldn't ask for better weather to be out and about.

Still, there are many signs that fall is here and for us of course, it is all about fall and winter programming and new books. We have just placed a huge order for all the new fall and winter books so you will see our list getting longer and more and more new books on display. Even though, I don't want to think about the winter, reading books in front of a crackling fire does make those winter evenings enjoyable.

Library Literary Event:  Off the Page with Barbara Kyle on September 29th at 2 p.m.

Almost two weeks from today, we will be hosting Barbara Kyle to talk about her Thornleigh Series. Patrons have been dropping by and borrowing the books but we are encouraging speedy reading so that as many folks as possible will have read them by the 29th. Some of you may remember when Barbara lived in the area with her husband Stephen and daughter Sara. This will be an enjoyable afternoon as we discuss Barbara's books and enjoy meeting other patrons in the library as we have our question and answer period and social time.

Children's Programs: Story time for 2 to 5 year olds will be starting up again for the fall winter sessions. This coming Friday, September 20 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. join Mrs. Jeanne for songs, stories and crafts.

Our interactive Toddlers Program for little ones, ages 18 months to 2 years, and their moms will start on Tuesday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. This will involve songs and finger plays for moms and tots and lots of early literacy fun. You will be introduced to our large selection of Board Books and simple rhyming picture books.

Our new books are starting to come in... and not yet processed but here! Lee Child's new one, Never Go Back and Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam, the third in the trilogy, with Oryx and Crake, and the Year of the Flood. Reading through reviews, we pick up that this is vintage Atwood with superb language, humour and a strong ending to the trilogy  celebrating community and love.
