Redwings lose 0–2 to start the season

The Shelburne Redwings have yet to play on home ice this season.

But after starting the season with two games on the road the squad is 0–2 after losing  both games to start the season.

The Redwings season opener took them to Powassan on September 7, to face the Eagles  for the first game of the year.

After giving up two goals in the first period, the Shelburne squad battled back in the second scoring two goals from Filip Sedivy and Gordy Bonnel to make it a tight 3–2 game going into the final twenty minutes.

The Eagles went ahead with a goal at the midway mark to lead by two, but a final Shelburne goal by Bonnel – his second of the game – with 1:31 left on the clock brought the Redwings  within distance to tie it up.

They had to settle for a 4–3 when the clock ran out before they could get a tying goal.

On Friday, September 13, the Redwings travelled to Tamiscaming to face the Titans.

This time the Shelburne squad played a scoreless first period but fell completely apart in the second frame when the Titans scored 7 goals to pretty much end the game.

The final period again had the Redwings scrambling when Tamiscaming scored two  short-handed goals just :27 seconds apart, then finished up with a final goal at 12:23 into  the period to end the game 10–0.

That game is likely one the Redwings will want to forget and put behind them before they get on with the rest of the season.

The Redwings will be on the road again this week travelling to South Muskoka to face the Shield on Friday, September 20, with an 8:00 p.m. start.

They will host their home opener on Friday, September 27, at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex when the take on the Lefroy Wave.

The puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
