Beginning on October 21st, the new season is will be a fun filled activity that the entire family can participate in. With any sport comes the competitive streaks and roads to glory and Shelburne has a few Olympic hopefuls in Kaelyn Gregory, 15, a 7 year veteran curler, Anna Boulanger, 16, a 10 year veteran curler, and Courtney Holmes 15, a 9 year veteran curler and present coaches for the kids league appropriately called “Little Rocks” all have the Olympic dream in mind. Holmes remarked, “Curling is great, especially for little kids. It doesn't cost a lot, it's not a contact sport, no long distance driving, there's not a lot of expensive equipment to buy and our season is really long.” President of the Club, John Gregory agreed commenting, “That's true and really all you need is a hockey helmet and clean indoor running shoes. We'll supply the other things for the kids. We're offer free clinics on Wednesday, Oct. 9th, Thursday, Oct. 10th, Tuesday, Oct. 15th, and Thursday Oct. 17th from 7–8 p.m. It's a great opportunity to try it out and see if it's something you'd like to do. The biggest challenge anyone faces really is delivery and balance. It's a lot of fun.” Curling for Shelburne residents is so much fun, the club began in 1962 and has never looked back. With a season running longer than most sports, curling begins in October and runs through to mid April. The Shelburne Curling Club caters to every kind of curling skill so whether you are a seasoned curler but not wanting competition, competitive and skilled, or just interested in the fitness, social activity and enjoyment of the sport, there is something for everyone, and all ages are welcome. Note worthy: Shelburne's own Jeff Brown played with Curling Team Husain in the KW Fall Classic Cash Spiel over the past weekend. “Jeff Brown started in Bantams, moved to Juniors, made it to the Provincial Championships. Only 8 teams get to go to the provincial championships!” Gregory proudly remarked. Don't worry if you missed the registration day, just call the Club, located at 110 O'Flynn Street, at 519-925-2011 or visit them online at www.shelburnecurlingclub.ca or e-mail info@shelburnecurling.ca By Alex Sher   Photo by Alex SherKaelyn Gregory, 15, Anna Boulanger, 16, and Courtney Holmes 15 look forward to the Curling season beginning.
