Shelburne Air Cadet 164 Squadron receive local support

The community of Shelburne is now able to support the Shelburne Air Cadets 164 Squadron by donating used clothing in two locations into the blue and white used clothing drop-off  boxes located at No Frills and outside the Royal Canadian Legion 220 Branch.

All proceeds will go directly to the Cadets and here is how it works. J. Coles & Grandad UK Ltd., Textile Recycling Worldwide, is a textile recycling company located in Shelburne and they have a soft spot for charities. They provided the beautifully made boxes with a lock to the Air Cadets after the Cadets received permission to place the boxes at the two locations. The Air Cadets provided the signage indicating where the proceeds will go, J. Coles & Grandad UK Ltd. maintain and service the boxes, tally the weight of the clothing donated, purchase it and provide the Air Cadets with the proceeds. Often the clothing will go overseas and get reconditioned, buttons replaced, zippers repaired and in many cases will get a second chance to be sold and worn again.

A tremendous help to the Air Cadets who work hard to support themselves with fundraising events, this ongoing commitment from J. Coles & Grandad UK Ltd. with the support of local residents can benefit the Air Cadets to the tune of $500 a month in some instances and they are grateful for help.

‘Donators beware' is unfortunately a common bit of advice concerning many donation type situations where the public are unaware just where their donations are going to. The Recycling business is a business and what the public needs to check for is the name on the front of the box they are donating to. Should the signage not be clearly understood, it is recommended that donors locate a different drop box which is clearly labelled. J. Coles & Grandad UK Ltd. encourage visits to their warehouse where donations can be made directly to any charitable organization of your choice.
