Shelburne Library news Well, another busy week here at the Library. Story Time and Toddler Time are running on Tuesdays and Fridays as usual. New books are arriving and being processed daily... can't get over how prolific John Grisham, J.D. Robb, Clive Cussler etc., are these days. It seems like almost a book a month with these popular authors. We do have some great new non-fiction books as well with new ones by Maud Barlow and Steven Harper arriving in the next few days. All these have been released in time for Christmas gift giving but you can just borrow your copy free from the library. Library Literary Event – Off the Page We are excited and getting ready for our Library Literary Event this Sunday, November 17th at 2 p.m. We welcome noted author and researcher, John Riley. John will talk about the research and fascinating information in his new book, The Once and Future Great Lakes Country, An Ecological History. John brings a great deal of passion and expertise to this subject and I know you will be intrigued by his presentation. Nancy Frater from Book Lore will be there as well to have some copies of the book available. This would make an excellent Christmas gift for like-minded conservationists. And once that event is over on Sunday, we can focus on our next event... Silent Auction and Special Book Sale – Saturday, November 30th at 10 a.m. This is our really big fundraiser for this year for the library. We have had some wonderful donations but as always we do appreciate any contributions you can make towards this event. We usually have some very special and unique items and some wonderful home baking and special treats. Of course, attending and purchasing items on that day is another way of supporting YOUR library. Our Book Sale this year will be really outstanding as we have many almost new books and special thematic gift baskets. Food for Fines – in partnership with the Shelburne District Firefighters Association Starting November 14th to December 14th, you can donate food or toys in lieu of your library fines. This is a great time to clear any outstanding fines on your record and donate the food or new toys to a worthy cause. Be sure to talk to one of the staff to make sure the fine is deleted from your record when you bring in your donation. Focus On Seniors As the cold weather and snowy sidewalks are inevitably approaching, I would like to remind our Seniors about our Home delivery service of Book, magazine and Talking books. We have 10 or 12 Seniors that we are currently delivering books to but will certainly expand that service if you or anyone you know would like to sign up. It is free and we do our best to bring you the types of materials that you will really enjoy.
