And why the name Piccadilly? Recommended by the Thurston's son- in -law, this name has a history: In the 1700's Robert Baker made his fortune creating and mass producing the famous Piccadill, a very stiff collar with laced edges, hugely popular in the world of fashion at that time. Eventually Roberts built a very large home and named it Piccadilly Hall. Over time, the street leading to the house became known as Piccadilly Street and is currently not only a well known street, it may be the widest and straightest of all streets to be found in London.
