Wolves Bantam LL1 squad poised for top finish

After eight games into the season, the Shelburne Wolves Bantam LL1 team figures they have a good shot at taking the championship this year.

The squad lost 3–1 to Wasaga Beach on Saturday (Nov. 16) – only the second loss for the team this season.

“It was a tough game,” said coach Shawn Cavey. “Their goalie kept them in it today for sure. That was only our second loss out of eight games.”

The team may have taken hit on Saturday, but that doesn't tell the story of the season.

Defensively the squad excels at break up the on coming rush.

“Our goalie (Joe Woolett) is playing really well,” Cavey said.

The big story for the Bantam team is in their goal scoring ability - and that's what is keeping them on top this season.

After eight games team has put 68 goals to the back of the opponent's net. That's an average of 8.5 goals per game - enough to make any opposing goalie nervous.

The team executes well and takes the shot at the right moment.

In Saturday's game they played up to their standard and have several opportunities to score, but they faced a hot Wasaga goalie who didn't let anything past.

Despite the loss, the squad seems confident in what they can do with the remaining 12 games in the season and the goal is to finish in the number one spot.

The Bantam LL1 team will be back on home ice this Saturday at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex when the host Midland.

The game will get underway at 2:10 p.m.
