Shelburne’s auto care providers unit in the spirit of giving While many this time of year are busy shopping and wishing about what they will receive for Christmas, some are very busy thinking of new and innovative ways to help others. In the spirit of giving on November 14th, Napa AutoPro Auto Centre was the neighborhood gathering place as fellow Shelburne Auto Service providers, Tru-Teck Automotive Service, Shelburne Auto & Cycle,and Byers Auto Body And Collision, united in generosity presenting Reverend David Howes with $125 each for a grand total of $500 donated to Shelburne's Food Bank, The Shepherd's Cupboard. There are many interesting facets to this particular statement of generosity where otherwise business competitors see themselves united under one front as Shelburne's Auto Service Providers and actual neighbors, becoming a team of sorts with one goal in mind, helping others. When businesses ‘team' up in this manner, great things happen. Reverend David Howes was very surprised and grateful for the donation. “I think it's amazing! I love the fact that everyone is working together helping their community to run better. This is admirable. It says a lot about the four businesses making a stronger impact working together,” commented Howes adding, “I hope this will become incentive for local businesses who share a common interest to collaborate and work together.” And where did the idea of gathering fellow business neighbors in the spirit of giving come from ? Yet another brain child of Napa AutoPro Auto Centre's owner, Steve Bowles had this to say, “ I called my business neighbors. Presented the idea and they were quick to respond. We are business neighbors and we service our community. It's important to recognize we are a group of Auto Service Providers and we can get a lot accomplished when we work together and pool our resources, and it's our way of giving back to our community as a united front.” The Shepherd's Cupboard is in ever great need of support as the rising costs of living force more and more to seek help. Reverend Howes is astounded at today's society and is working hard to try and close the poverty gap. “Thirty years ago I worked in Montreal and directed an inner city mission. Poverty is as real a concern today,” explained Howes, “There are so many in need. The Shepherd's Cupboard also supplies more than just food, we offer resources to help in many family and crisis situations. This money will really help especially at this time of year.” Yet another facet to this story, poverty and the growing numbers of those in need and the many different ways one might find themselves in any number of situations where the Shepherd's Cupboard can provide a non-judgemental support system.
