CDDHS Royals hockey team take loss to ODSS

It was one of those games where the score doesn't really tell the whole story.

The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals boys hockey team took a 6–1 loss to Orangeville District Secondary School at Tony Rose arena in Orangeville on Thursday, December 6.

The Royals came to the game with a 2–3–1 record and a seventh place in the District 4 / 10 hockey standings.

After going down in the first period, the Royals lit up the board on their side early in the second period, but that's all they could do for the game.

The squad played a strong game but had trouble getting through a tough ODSS defensive squad.

“We're defending OFSAA champions, but we lost ten guys since last year,” said coach Bill Bradford of the fact that the team has dropped in the standings this season.

Several key players moved on to Junior level hockey this year which makes them ineligible to play on a high school team.

“I thought the first period we were a little apprehensive,” Bradford said. “We played a really good second period. We sort of had a couple of bad shifts were we broke down in our own zone. We lost that composure and they got a got a couple of quick goals. We still going through some growing pains and trying to get our line combos together. It's matter of refining what we have to do.”

The team still turned out a good performance despite the loss but will have to get on the plus side in the remaining games to move up in the final standings.

The Royals will be back on the ice on Tuesday, December 17, at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Centre in Shelburne where they will host the squad from Westside Secondary School in Orangeville.

The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
