Hit and run

It's that time again. Rutting season, hunting season, feeding. All get the deer on the run into the paths of the heavy metal 4 wheel killing machines.

Also other animals are busy getting ready for winter and running into our paths.

We need to be aware and ready. We need to pay attention to those deer/moose crossing signs along our road ways where ever you may be. They are posted for a reason.

This deer was not so lucky as are many many other animals spring and fall. It is a horrible thing to see these majestic beautiful animals lying there, gone from our world because we couldn't stop. But what's worse is whoever hit this beautiful creature just hit and ran. She lay there for hours while everyone just drove by paying no attention. There was no blood. Quite possibly she lay there for hours suffering.

When you hit an animal of this magnitude, stop, call police, if it needs to be euthanized (a better way of putting it), they will help that animal either way it needs help. They will have it picked up. It won't lie there for everyone to gawk at, for children to see and be traumatized by. For possibly a predator animal to come along and also get hit. To cause another accident, maybe killing somebody.

Where is the human compassion out there? I see less and less of that, people are just in a hurry and if anything gets in their way “look out”.

Hit & Run. Do they stop to see if it needs help, move it off the road? Carefully of course. Safety is always #1. Only a handful of caring people do that. And kudos to all of you! It is very sad how this world has gone.

Recently we all saw a horrible story on TV about a very young black bear, the man clipped it, and it tried to run off. He inhumanely took it upon himself to hit the bear over and over with a big rock. It took a while the witness said. While people stood there and looked on. No one tried to help the animal, no one called police. Possibly that bear could have been helped at a wildlife rehab facility, or humanly put down. But no, it was hit over and over suffering with every blow till it succumbed to his cruelty. And now nothing is being done about this man's horrible behavior. That was just a young bear, and quite possibly it was not hit that badly. Of course I don't know the whole story. I wasn't there. But our laws are so slack here it makes me angry. The government just keeps “removing” what is important. Cutbacks they call it. These animals do not know any different than to run free and wild. After all, that's what they are, “wild”.  And they should be free!  But more and more now they are being forced into close contact with humans and cars on roads that were never there before. Not so free.

Our world is getting bigger every day with developments everywhere going in and human populations expanding. With this, their world is getting smaller, leaving them no choices, and forcing them into our paths. So slow down and watch out for them. It's not so hard! It could also save your life and your children's lives. Yes hitting a large animal or even a small animal can kill you.
