The next mayor of Toronto

Dear editor:

Rob Ford was at the nomination–opening for the job of mayor of Toronto at 8:30 in the morning.

It is very sad to say, but Mr. Ford will be the mayor of Toronto for the next term starting in late October or November of 2014.

Who is going to run against Mr. Ford? No one! Who wants to be on the same platform/stage or on the same street campaigning against a man who admits to taking drugs, admits telling fibs, says “sorry” every five minutes and has to have his brother act as his honourary transmitter?

It's incredible that Mr. Ford is still the mayor of Toronto in this term. The council in Toronto couldn't even oust Mr. Ford. After almost four years of gross stupidity, eligible citizens in Toronto still gave Mr. Ford a 45% approval rating.

Of course, we can't just blame Torontonians. A small poll by a local newspaper gave a 50/50 split in approval for Mr. Ford. How can anyone with reasonable intelligence be in love with a man who has brought the world's scorn onto Toronto's reputation?

Another problem with Mr. Ford's apparent approval is the copy-cat one. Across Ontario, candidates with all the weird attributes that Mr. Ford holds will get into the race for municipal government. Every council could have a ‘Rob Ford'!

We must be prepared for some of the most debilitating council shenanigans in Ontario's municipal history after the October election!

Vaughan G. Harris,

Tottenham
