As a result of the forecasted rainfall and snow melt, local streams and waterways will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. The Dufferin Detachment of the OPP wishes to remind parents to keep children away from all bodies of water, regardless of depth. Research has shown that six inches of fast-moving water can knock over an adult and two feet of rushing water to carry away a vehicle. If you come to an area that is covered with water, you will not know the depth of the water or the condition of the ground under the water. This is especially true at night, when your vision is more limited.
