GMHL moves into third round – local teams all done for the year

The Greater Metro Hockey League is moving into the third round of the playoffs. Unfortunately for local hockey fans, all three teams in the area are done for the season.

The Shelburne Red Wings never had a chance. After a dismal season that saw the squad lose 39  games they didn't even qualify for any first round action.

After four years in Shelburne, there is talk around the League – unconfirmed as of now – that the Red Wings will be moving to Angus, although a couple of other towns have been mentioned as possible locations.

The Orangeville Americans finished the season after losing their first round series to the Alliston Coyotes in four games.

The Americans had a good season finishing in the number eight spot in the League – a good finish considering there are 20 teams in the GMHL.

The Orangeville squad ended the regular season with a 25–17 record – good for 52 points.

They will be back in Orangeville for the 2014 / 2015 season.

The last remaining local team, the Alliston Coyotes, finished up with a second round loss to the  Bradford Bulls.

The Bulls took the series in three games hammering the Coyotes 12–0 in the final game in Bradford on March 1.

The Coyotes did well for a first year team finishing the regular season in seventh place with a 30–12 record and 62 points.

At the end of the year there is quite a bit of talk around the League of several teams relocating for the start of next year.

In addition to the Red Wings, the Lefroy Wave, who finished in 19th place, are also expected to change venues in the new year.
