Meet the Junior Royals Centre Dufferin District High School hockey team

Looking forward to a very exciting three tournament season, Coaches of the Centre Dufferin District High School Hockey Team proudly announce the team for the Junior Royals is up and ready.

“This team is made up of the younger high school students. It gives us a chance to see younger guys coming up for the Varsity Team next year,” commented High school teacher and coach, Ryan Stewart. “The season is short, running through to second week in April.”

With a three coach support system, there is ample coaching experience offered up by the Coaches who are also teachers at CDDHS. Coach Eric Zeilder, coach Ryan Stewart and his father, also a coach and teacher, Steve Stewart are the coaches bringing the team together and in light of the local positive conversations surrounding hockey, Ryan Stewart reminds, “High school hockey rules are very different from main stream and if a team player fights, he gets a 12 game suspension.” Stewart points out. “There is not an issue with fighting for that very reason as boys wouldn't risk losing out on an entire season.”

Stewart also said that students must have permission from their teachers to miss classes and passing grades.

“We as teachers and hockey coaches stress the importance of being as student/athlete, student is the first priority, athlete is the second,” explained Stewart.

A refreshing difference when compared to main stream hockey rules, as Stewart states, “I have a huge amount of respect for all minor hockey coaches and parents. We wouldn't see the elite level of players that we do in the varsity program if it wasn't for all the years of commitment and dedication these people put in before we ever work with them.”

Shelburne can enjoy watching the Junior Royals in Orangeville at the Alder St. Arena, March 18th or (still to be decided) March 19 in Erin, in Shelburne on Monday March 24th at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex and in Guelph at the West End Recreation Complex on April 1st, and 2nd.

This Year's Team Roster includes Isaac Fazackerley, Evan Spencer, Kyle Latter, Carter Park, Stephen Falls, Mitchell Skilton, Aaron Fuller, Vincent Halis, Deacon Hancock, Ty McCallum, Kayden Morley, Brandon Way, Keith Gordanier, Sullivan Murphy, Darren Taylor, Ryan Brake, Jacob Lantaigne, Ayden Litt, Jared Leidtke, Darren Janke, Joe Freeman-Woollett, Mathew Bryan-Hale, Zach Laform.

Good luck to the Junior Royals as perhaps Gordie Howe summed it up best, “You find that you have peace of mind and can enjoy yourself, get more sleep, and rest when you know that it was a one hundred percent effort that you gave- win or lose.”
