Shelburne community rallies behind 8 year old for service dog

Never before have so many different organizations come to one location for the sole purpose of supporting a little girl's dream of raising money to buy service dogs for herself and four or five other kids living with Autism.

Shelburne Town Pharmacy owners, Sanjay Lekhi and his wife Shalini are well known in the community for giving back and have recently been concentrating on ways to support Taylor Harris' dream, bring businesses and organizations together in a united front to accomplish community supported goals, and by inviting the community and customers to events, be able to give back. Difficult task to imagine but when this Pharmacist creates an idea to help others, the outcome is inevitable.

On Saturday, April 5th, Shelburne Town Pharmacy was host to a fund raising event for Taylor Harris involving two businesses and two organizations. The Classical Martial Arts Centre, Umaka Dojo provided a visual demonstration of Martial Arts skills that can be achieved with a lot of hard work. Classical Martial Arts Sensei, Nick Lagrasta and partner Lisa Gillard along with students Chad and Teresa Dupuis performed feats of balance, skill and the mastering of speed and accuracy that amazed onlookers inside the Pharmacy.

A very exciting day at the pharmacy as outside the pharmacy, a barbecue was the backdrop for the Shelburne Minor Fastball Association, the Jr. Schooners a travelling team, held sign-ups and drummed up donations for Taylor Harris in a collaborative effort along-side Shelburne Minor Baseball. The two organizations promised to match donations up to $250 each. The amount raised for Taylor Harris will be disclosed at a later date during a formal presentation with promise of surprising results.

Also very exciting for the Harris family was the loving presence of Taylor's  father, Chris Harris, a long-haul truck Driver whose work often takes him far from home. A close knit family, Chris Harris is more than proud of his daughter and family over what has been accomplished in support of Autism awareness.

Creating a plan where business' and organizations came together to raise awareness for autism combined with giving back to the community is just one of many events the Lehki's have successfully enjoyed, further cementing their already strong ties and commitment to their customers and the Shelburne community.
