CDDHS hosts badminton tournament Junior level badminton players from six high schools competed in the Division 4 Junior Tournament hosted by Centre Dufferin District High School in Shelburne on Thursday, April 3. In addition to the host school, teams from Orangeville, Erin, Palmerston, Mount Forest, and Emmanuel Christian school were represented by grade nine and ten students. “We have six teams with 46 entries,” said tournament organizer and CDDHS faculty member Amber Storey. “This is one of our bigger tournaments – all juniors, grade nine and ten. For CDDHS we have three girls double teams playing today. The first and second place teams today will go to CWOSSA (Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association) at Conestoga College on April 16.” In competition, teams featured girls doubles, boys doubles, mixed doubles, and single girls and boys teams, each playing four to six games through the day to determine the final outcome. Representing CDDHS were team members Alyssa Stoddart, Taylor Rutledge, Sophie Doney, Natalie Teeter, Allison Lynch, and Cathryn Callegari. The final results of the tournament saw Wellington Heights Secondary School from Mount Forest come out on top with the a top score of 39 points for the tournament. The CDDHS team of Alyssa Stoddart and Taylor Rutledge finished in first place in the girls doubles competition and will go on to represent the school at CWOSSA. Over all the Shelburne team finished in third place in the competition. By Brian Lockhart
