The Shelburne Soccer Club has already signed up around 400 players that are ready to get out on the fields for the 2014 season. “This is our fifth registration,” said Tricia Field, a member of the association executive during a registration day at the Shelburne Public Library. “We have about 400 kids registered.” This makes soccer the most popular summer sport in the area. The Association has U4, U6, U8, U10, and U12 divisions that play locally and four teams that travel. The U10, boys and girls, U12 boys, and U14 girls rep teams play teams from the region. “They will play half their games at home and half on the road in towns in the escarpment area,” Field explained. In town, teams play on the soccer pitches at Hyland Park, K&H and at Greenwood Park. Soccer has been recognized as one of the most versatile summer sports for kids and it certainly keeps them active and fit. It didn't take long for the club to fill the spots on the teams, however there are a few spots still available on select teams.
