Shelburne and District Lions Club host three events in one day John's No Frills in Shelburne was the place to be on Friday April 25th as the Shelburne & District Lions Club incorporated three events into one fun filled charity fundraising, hamburger eating day! “The inaugural April 4th launch of the Lions World Lunch Relay is intended to bring families in the community together around the world to share a meal and celebrate the value of service,” commented President of the Shelburne & District Lions Club, Martin Mirander. “That day, the weather was not accommodating so here we are today to launch our kick off, get some exposure sharing all the great things we're doing in the community, and of course let people know how they can help too. We are also raising money for the Shelburne Foodbank, The Shepherd's Cupboard, and selling tickets for the May 11th John's No Frills Shopping Spree.” According to the Lion's Club press release, the Lions can proudly boast being the largest service club organization in the world, with 1.35 million members serving communities in 208 countries. With humble beginnings in the United States in 1917, Lions Club Founder, a Chicago business man, Melvin Jones created the motto, “We Serve” and Jones' personal code of ethics is simply stated as, “You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.” In keeping with fine tradition, the Shelburne & District Lions Club have been deeply involved helping the visually impaired, the blind, enhancing diabetes awareness, are champions of youth initiatives, and support many community oriented humanitarian projects. “I really want to thank John vanTeuenbroek, owner of John's No Frills for all his help in making the day a success,” sincerely commented Lion's Club President, Martin Mirander. “I'm just happy to support the Lions and the community. Any time the community wants to raise money for a good cause they can feel free to approach me to use this space,” commented owner of John's No Frills, John vanTeuenbroek. Modest in his estimation of his contribution, vanTeuenbroek, in supporting the Lion's Club helped to raise $178 to be donated to the Shepherd's Cupboard in Shelburne.
