Shelburne's Brett Snell notched the only first period goal. It was the second period that made all the difference. After giving up a single to Hamilton just 18 seconds into the period, the Vets responded with three in a row from Doug Derbyshire, Kyle Stavely, and Todd Greer. The Bengals notched one more at the midway mark. Shelburne's Charlie McCannell and Greer scored for the Vets to leave the Hamilton squad trailing 6–2 when the teams returned for the final period. “It was a very good defensive game for us tonight,” summed up Vets head coach Mark Early. “Things were working well and they couldn't break us. In lacrosse games, a 1–0 period is unusual, but the Vets made up in the second. “The second has been our bad period all year, so it was really good to see us come and take it them. We told the guys ‘we're getting the shots inside, we've just got to start putting them in the net.' They're goalie made a lot of saves in the second period. I think we had 19 shots in that second period and about 15 of them were inside the white line. We really outplayed them in the second, we just had trouble picking up the ball,” Early said. Going in the final period, Hamilton scored one in the early going. The Vets again responded with three more to end the game 9–3. Shelburne goals came from Brett Snell for two, and a shorthanded effort from Todd Greer for this third of the game. The win leaves the Vets in fourth place in the West Division of the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League with eight points and a 4–3 record. The two teams will meet again on Thursday, June 5, when the Vets head down the Queen Elizabeth way to Hamilton. The Vets will be back in Shelburne for their regular Friday night home game on June 6, when the will host the Fergus Thistles.
